Rocky Loves Emily, and Showers

Bliss is when a little piece of your past shows up during the present. In this case, my past showed up at the Potomac Mills Mall in Woodbridge, Virginia last night. Thanks to the lovely social networking site, I was able to find out that my friend’s band, Rocky Loves Emily, was on Tour and would be in my neck of the woods for the next few days. They were at the mall promoting their new album and their tour and encouraged all of their fans to come out to support them.

I frantically reached for my phone to text my friend, Steve, and realized that his number was no longer in my cell phone. I finally got a hold of a mutual friend who had a number, but wasn’t sure if it was still active, only one way to find out. I shot a text to that number “if this is Steve Hull, then this is Kelly Curtis and I’m coming to your gig tonight.” I didn’t get a response back, it took about 30 minutes and half way up to the mall when I heard the bzzz bzzz bzzz of my cell phone, it was Steve. “NO WAY, I’m so stoked to see you!!!” I was equally as stoked. I would consider Steve to be more than just an acquaintance; he would fall under the friend category. Due to college and other life events, we haven’t seen each other since 2004, and were long overdue for a reunion.

We met at the Starbucks in the mall and instantly we were right back in the Waterford Kettering band room, 2000 and nothing has changed. We catch up on family, friends, our current lives. And then, the show. AMAZING! All of the band mates of Rocky Loves Emily were incredibly nice (of course, the majority are from the Mid-West) and loved hanging out with all of their fans who came to watch. There is just something really silly about watching people line up for your friend’s autograph. Kid after kid, buying posters and t-shirts and taking pictures.

After the show it was grub time and the band and I went to the food court to get some last minute Chinese food. Where again, kids came up asking for autographs. One girl asked me if I was their manager and I confirmed that indeed, I was. They all started giggling and asking questions about being on tour etc. I then felt really bad that I had lied to her, but the guys kept rolling with it so it was a little humorous.

It was then decided that seeing as how the majority of them haven’t showered in over 3 days, they would crash at my place so they could all bathe and NOT have to sleep in their van that night. Upon my guests’ arrival, my landlord asked if we needed blankets and pillows etc, and even offered some beds upstairs to some of the guys. They were all incredibly thankful and I couldn’t help but wonder what their lives are like on the road.

Waking up this morning was an experience, 5 guys sprawled out all over my living room, up and down the hallways. See picture below :)

Rocky Loves Emily will have their first CD out in all Hot Topic stores starting November 22nd. Check them out on Myspace and Facebook. These guys are something else… I just hope they didn’t leave me a mess to come home to.
