Ash Wednesday is the start of Lent. I always used to pride myself that "I'm not Catholic, I don't have to give up anything." Now a bit wiser, I fully understand what it meant of Jesus to sacrifice his life for us, so I am more than capable to go 40 days without a vice.
As my Haiti team gets ready for our mission trip in June, we thought it would be a neat idea for our Church body to change the way we think about water. From consumption to cooking to even how much we waste on average every day. To help us do this, we came up with the 40 Day Water Challenge! To learn more about it, click here.
For every soda pop, beer or coffee that I would have purchased in the next 40 days, I will donate that money to the Haiti mission trip fund. We've received an overwhelming response from our congregation with support and solidarity.
Today is day one of no soda pop or coffee. At first I didn't think I would have any issue with it, but as my legs shake and my head pounds I can't help but realize that I may have been a bit addicted. I've gone 8 months before without drinking soda pop, and I've gone 3 months without drinking alcohol... but never have I given everything up all at once. I suppose this is also a great way to cleanse myself before my half marathon in May, to have nothing but pure delicious water running through my veins.
I hope this exhaustion subsides soon, I have 6 miles to run tonight.
